Why did you apply for a job with SLB?

“In Louisiana, there is a certain degree of honor, respect and pride when you have a career with SLB. For me, the most attractive point for hiring on was the vast opportunity for growth.”

Describe your SLB career path so far.

“I started out as a storekeeper and in 18 months progressed to warehouse supervisor. In 2014, I joined the Maintenance team. Within six months I became a technician trainee, and obtained my Technician Level 1 in 2018. Since then, I have acquired three advanced technical certifications and I’m currently working on my Level 2.”

What is a typical day like for you?

“There’s no such thing as a typical day in the oilfield. On any given day I am servicing, repairing or maintaining equipment. It can be challenging, but it is immensely rewarding to hand over reliable, dependable equipment that you know will generate revenue.”

How did your training help you make the transition to Maintenance?

“SLB training is second to none. When I first joined, I was in Shared Services as a storekeeper. What amazes me is that all of the training I received while in that position I could somehow apply to my current position. It is extremely helpful to know the ins and outs of that particular function because I have a better understanding of the business side of maintenance.”

What training did you receive?

“I began training in the lab long before I set foot in the classroom. Larose is a high-profile deepwater location; we see lots of new technology. We learn a lot by doing, and you have the opportunity to cross train on any tool. As for the more technical side of maintenance, we have some of the most skilled and knowledgeable instructors in the world.”

What have you learned about yourself along the way?

“I have learned that I can do anything I set my mind to. I’ve learned that it is never too late to try a new path. I’ve also learned what it means to be a part of an amazing team; to be valued, respected and relied upon, and to reciprocate those values back to my teammates.”

Maintenance is a male-dominated field. How has that affected you?

“When I put my coveralls on, I don’t see myself as a woman in a man’s world. I see myself as a technician with the knowledge and training to get the job done. As a woman, I have certain physical limitations that my male teammates do not have. However, most men will not stand aside and watch you struggle. Regardless of gender, no one wants to see a colleague get hurt.”

What is your advice to new recruits?

“My advice to recruits entering this field is to be always open to learning something new. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. Initiative and effort are highly respected traits.”
