Only a few months into her new position as a Maintenance Engineer Trainee, Maraheb is busy turning theoretical learning into real-life doing.
Fresh out of college with a degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Maraheb found herself job hunting in the midst of a global pandemic. She wasted no time, continuing her training with online courses. Six months later, in December 2020, her focus paid off. She landed a position as Maintenance Engineer Trainee at the Schlumberger drilling base in Kuwait.
There, the learning continued, with seven-hour days of online theory and software instruction provided by one of our training centers. The program is enhancing her engineering skills, says Maraheb, and helping her see how her academic knowledge applies in her real-life position.
Based on her experience so far, Maraheb not surprisingly sums up the Schlumberger culture in one word: training. “Schlumberger’s culture is focused on learning. The company always tries to develop every single employee. The training is awesome, despite the pandemic. Schlumberger is using all possible (remote meeting) technologies to teach and develop new recruits.”
Teamwork and support are other themes Maraheb has noticed so far. “My direct manager has helped me since the first day I joined Schlumberger. During my online training, he always shows me the components and how they work in real life, so I get familiar with them while I am studying. Also, my functional manager follows up with me all the time, making sure I complete all the requirements to get prepared for going to the field.”
To others—especially other women—who are contemplating a career with Schlumberger, Maraheb’s advice is simple: “Don’t miss the chance. It will give you an amazing experience and improve your skills in a helpful and respectful environment.”
