Raneem Didn't Plan This Career. She Said Yes To It

How embracing the unexpected shaped a career across functions and regions

“As an engineer, I would have never imagined being a Planning & Supply Chain Manager one day.”
Raneem didn't plan to work in supply chain, but SLB has a way of taking you places you never saw coming.

When she joined in 2016 as a Stimulation Field Engineer in Esbjerg, Denmark, the path she’s on today would have been hard to picture. Fresh out of university, working in the North Sea—some of the most demanding offshore conditions in the world—Raneem wasn’t looking for an easy start to her career. She was eager to dive into the deep end and that’s exactly what that job gave her.

"What attracted me most was the opportunity to apply engineering in a high-pressure, high-impact environment. It gave me the foundation I wanted."

After several years building her technical expertise in field operations, Raneem was offered something she hadn't seen coming: a Division Supplier Manager role, one of the first people at SLB to take it on. The move took her from managing crews and equipment on job sites to shaping strategic supplier relationships at a whole division level. It was a significant leap, and she'll be the first to admit she wasn't sure she was ready for it.

"My leadership team recognized a capability in me that I hadn't yet seen. Their confidence pushed me to step forward."

That moment stayed with her. Not because it erased her doubt, but because it changed how she thought about her own professional growth. She realized it rarely arrives when you feel ready. It arrives when someone around you sees something you don't, and you decide to trust them.

From there, rotations through operations, procurement, and planning gradually moved her from the delivery side of the business to the strategic side. From executing to understanding how everything connects.

That shift in perspective didn't only come from her career. As a mother of two, Raneem is honest about what that chapter of her life has added to her approach: balance, patience, and a sharper sense of how to focus on what matters most. Those same qualities are what ground her as a leader today.

“Adaptability shapes how you show up for the people around you,” she says. “We must always stay agile and confident in the face of change as growth comes from stepping into the unknown."

Today, as a Planning & Supply Chain Manager in Saudi Arabia, Raneem looks back with pride on the career journey that has moved her through jobs, geographies, and ways of thinking she didn’t expect.

The distance between the roles she held, in every sense, is what a career at SLB can look like.
