Regetha loves the adventure and challenge she’s found in her technology career, and is resolved to keep spreading the word.
For several years, Regetha has had a cause she promotes at every opportunity: encouraging young people to pursue careers in technology. As a student, she promoted engineering among young adults and children through university tours, educational fairs, and academic conferences for high school students.
When the Women and Technology conference arrived on her campus, Regetha saw her chance to “walk the talk.” She met several Schlumberger women and learned about their career paths. “I was impressed with the clearly laid out career plan for new hires, which provided flexibility to switch between technical and management roles.” After hearing about the women’s experiences in various locations around the globe, she was hooked. “By the last day of the conference I had decided to apply for a position! This is why I volunteer for student events—my words might inspire someone else to take that first step, as I did.”

Regetha’s bold step led to her first field position, an 18-month posting in the Republic of Congo. She worked on land and offshore rigs, getting personally acquainted with the needs and demands of field operations. That knowledge serves her well in her current position in Houston as a Sustaining Engineer. “Because I operated cement units on the rig floor, I understand operational issues and the user perspective when I’m making design changes to units.”
These days, Regetha’s work is conducted largely from home with coordinated safe visits to the machine shop when necessary. Her team focuses on two or three projects at a time, such as initiatives to reduce the cost of cement unit maintenance or to increase the efficiency of a component, and they support field personnel who contact them with problems or need information. In addition, they are responsible for creating, maintaining and updating operational manuals, work instructions, vendor documentation, and bills of materials.
Regetha hasn’t stopped advocating for technology careers. She joined the employee network Connect Women to support other female innovators. “Last year we organized groups to enable women to learn from accomplished individuals in the company and develop their networking and management skills. This is a cause I see myself engaged in for years to come.”
