Sania took on her role in robotics automation software, eager to explore information technology directions that are new for her and for the company.
Sania heard about a job opening from a friend that sounded just right to her: Robotics Process Automation (RPA) Software Developer. She was ready to apply, even before she knew where the position was. Schlumberger? Never heard of it.
It was the start of a series of firsts. First time learning about Schlumberger. And first time realizing that companies in the energy industry hire for such advanced information technology initiatives.
Sania submitted her resume and in May 2017 became only the third person hired to her new team.
After graduating earlier in the year from the National University of Malaysia with a degree in Information Technology, Sania had interned in automation at an IT company, soaking up knowledge that helped land her the Schlumberger job.
Once in the door, Sania was not only developing software, but also helping develop the RPA framework and process lifecycle, governance and infrastructure. She learned several other technologies and tools, and was offered several targeted training courses.
The firsts have continued. Sania was recently the first in her Data & Analytics group to learn a new cloud platform that enables digital workflows. “The expectation is for me to learn and equip myself with the platform knowledge so that we can incorporate the technology into our portfolio.”
Sania has already been involved in two bronze-winning teams in the company’s Performed by Schlumberger internal awards program that recognizes teamwork, innovation and business impact.
Her parting piece of sage advice? “Do not be afraid to try new things. Sometimes you find your true calling only by doing something outside of your comfort zone.”
