Pushing boundaries in Bahrain
Somaya first joined SLB 17 years ago as a Geologist in Kuwait. Now, she is the Bahrain Country Manager, a goal she has had since her first day with the company. Not only is this an incredible personal achievement, but it's also making SLB history as she is the first woman to hold this position from any country within the Gulf Cooperation Council.
Alongside this accomplishment, Somaya was nominated for the LEWAS'22 Woman of Achievement Award, which recognizes the achievements of women in STEM in the Middle East, "It was an immense honor to be nominated for this award and to represent Bahraini women in a male-dominated field." Somaya hopes her career can be an example for women in STEM that determination, expressing your opinion with confidence, and self-belief are all you need to achieve your goals and be successful.

Throughout her career with SLB, Somaya has worked in seven different positions, across four countries, and has felt supported by her team and managers in every new role she took on. For her, it is the borderless careers that SLB offers that make it unique, as each new assignment presents an opportunity to grow. Though at times she had to be patient to get the job she wanted, she took this time to build her skills to prepare herself to take on a new challenge.
