As a field engineer, Tabarak says it’s essential to welcome change.
There’s never a typical day for a field engineer, and luckily, that’s one of the things that Tabarak particularly enjoys about the job. Responsible for preparing and mobilizing tools for jobs as well as executing the jobs themselves, Tabarak spends some days at the base and others in the field. “I face something new every single day.”
“We are always coming up with new technologies and new ways of working. You can never feel bored.”
One thing Tabarak does feel is encouraged. “I respect the company for treating everybody equally regardless of their gender or nationality.” Raised in a multicultural environment in Qatar, Tabarak always aspired to work in a multicultural workforce. “The opportunities that Schlumberger provides to both genders makes it very encouraging to aspire to progress in my career path, especially since the workforce is extremely diverse.”
Asked about a highlight in her short career so far, Tabarak cites her training at the Middle East Learning Center, Abu Dhabi, where she was immersed in learning for three hard-working months, and also made some good and lasting friends.
“Training is one of the biggest pluses that Schlumberger has. I have never heard of any company as invested in the training of their employees as Schlumberger is. The amount of resources that the company provides is beyond enormous. You can find out anything at anytime.”
Beyond the technical, Tabarak has learned lots about herself too. “Given the constant changes in the field, I have learned that I can be flexible. I have learned how to be a team member and a leader. And the most important thing that I have learned is to feel comfortable feeling challenged.”
How would she sum up her advice to new recruits? “Enjoy every moment of your day, make memories with your colleagues and embrace the challenges.”
