SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB’s global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities.  We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry.

 

 

Description & Scope:

In this role, the intern will contribute to the development of more efficient concepts for geothermal energy production and geothermal well construction. They will work on adapting and advancing technologies to manage, control, and optimise heat flows across key geothermal domains, including downhole systems and surface facilities.

 

The project will involve a combination of experimental laboratory work and simulation studies based on those experiments. As a result, the successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in both practical and computational aspects of geothermal research.

 

 

Deliverables:

  • Identifying, selecting and verifying suitable technologies and physical principals
  • Planning and carrying out experimental work (ensuring compliance with highest Health, Safety and Environment standards)
  • Using data processing, analysing and interpreting methods together with an understanding of physics
  • Liaising/coordinating work with other disciplines
  • Writing and presenting technical reports and scientific publication

 

 

Qualifications:

  • ​​Studying Masters​ in ​Physics, Geophysics, Geology, Engineering or a related discipline
  • Experience in processing a variety of energy data
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to develop novel solutions to research and engineering problems

 

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Proven expertise in subjects of heat transfer or heat exchangers
  • Modelling systems that span multiple physical domains, such as thermal, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems (e.g.: COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS, MathWorks Simulink/Simscape)
  • Programming languages for data analysis (e.g.: Matlab, Python)
  • 3D CAD modelling
