The Geophysicist is responsible for assisting in delivery of safe, efficient, and reliable products and services to our customers. The job consults with operations groups as needed to support the area of expertise and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement of product and service delivery and formally communicates findings. The Geophysicist actively participates in promoting new technology and services offerings and supports the PL in risk management and applying lessons learned to improve job design and execution as related to the area of expertise. They provide real-time support to operations as required.

  • Provide technical support in the area of expertise throughout the Sales and Product and Service Delivery process.
  • Assist as required with the development of technical job designs for PLs.
  • Assist with identifying areas where new and cost effective techniques can be applied.
  • Explore opportunities for value-added products and services.
  • Consult with Design/Technical Engineer role as required to optimize the technical design.
  • Assist in real-time incident response, recovery, and investigation as related to the area of expertise.
  • Assist in evaluating technical viability and overall appraisal of tenders as related to the area of expertise.
  • Remain current on new technologies.
  • Maintain customer visibility through active participation in professional society activities and calls for papers.
  • Understand the competition’s technical offering.
  • Participate in external technical societies and communities.
  • Contribute, write and review technical publications.
  • Engage with local universities, Customer institutes and research organizations.
  • Carbonate seismic interpretation: Apply advanced seismic workflows to delineate platform margins, reef build-ups, shoals, and karst features; integrate seismic geomorphology and attribute analysis for carbonate depositional systems.
  • Velocity and depth modeling in carbonates: Build robust velocity models accounting for heterogeneous lithology, high-velocity anhydrite layers, and karst voids; incorporate VSP/checkshot data for accurate depth conversion. 
  • Seismic inversion for carbonate heterogeneity: Perform pre-stack and post-stack inversion to predict porosity distribution, fracture intensity, and lithology variations; integrate inversion results with rock physics calibrated for carbonate systems.
  • Fracture and vug detection: Use seismic attributes (coherence, curvature, azimuthal anisotropy) and AVO/AVAz analysis to identify fracture corridors and karst networks critical for well placement.
  • Rock physics for carbonates: Develop carbonate-specific rock physics models considering dual porosity systems, fluid substitution, and diagenetic effects; calibrate elastic properties with core and log data.
  • Integration with geology and petrophysics: Collaborate on carbonate facies modeling and reservoir characterization by linking seismic attributes to depositional and diagenetic trends. 

 

  • Extensive carbonate experience: 10–15+ years in carbonate reservoirs (platform, reef, ramp), including FDP and mature field optimization.
  • Carbonate seismic interpretation expertise: Proven ability to map karst features, reef complexes, and fracture networks using advanced seismic attributes and inversion.
  • Rock physics and AVO in carbonates: Strong background in carbonate-specific elastic modeling, fluid substitution, and anisotropy analysis.
  • Depth conversion challenges: Experience handling velocity heterogeneity and uncertainty in carbonate settings using stochastic and deterministic approaches.
  • Integration skills: Ability to link seismic results with petrophysical and geological models for dual-porosity systems.
  • Software proficiency: Petrel Q.I. modules for carbonate workflows; familiarity with specialized tools for fracture detection and anisotropy analysis.
  • Familiarity with carbonate analogues: Good knowledge of local and regional depositional models (Middle East)
