The Petrophysicist is responsible for assisting in delivery of safe, efficient, and reliable products and services to our customers. The job consults with operations groups as needed to support the area of expertise and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement of product and service delivery and formally communicates findings. The Petrophysicist actively participates in promoting new technology and services offerings and supports the PL in risk management and applying lessons learned to improve job design and execution as related to the area of expertise. They provide real-time support to operations as required.

  • Provide technical support in the area of expertise throughout the Sales and Product and Service Delivery process.
  • Assist as required with the development of technical job designs for PLs.
  • Assist with identifying areas where new and cost effective techniques can be applied.
  • Explore opportunities for value-added products and services.
  • Consult with Design/Technical Engineer role as required to optimize the technical design.
  • Assist in real-time incident response, recovery, and investigation as related to the area of expertise.
  • Assist in evaluating technical viability and overall appraisal of tenders as related to the area of expertise.
  • Remain current on new technologies.
  • Maintain customer visibility through active participation in professional society activities and calls for papers.
  • Understand the competition’s technical offering.
  • Participate in external technical societies and communities.
  • Contribute, write and review technical publications.
  • Engage with local universities, Customer institutes and research organizations.
  • Carbonate-specific log interpretation: Advanced interpretation of logs in heterogeneous carbonate systems, including vuggy porosity, moldic porosity, and fracture identification using image logs (FMI/FMS), NMR, and dielectric measurements.
  • Rock typing for carbonates: Develop robust carbonate rock typing schemes (e.g., Lucia classification) integrating porosity types, pore throat size, and diagenetic features; propagate rock types across multiwell datasets using machine learning.
  • Dual-porosity modeling: Incorporate fracture and vug systems into petrophysical models; support dual-porosity/dual-permeability simulation inputs for reservoir engineers.
  • Diagenesis and wettability analysis: Evaluate diagenetic overprints (dolomitization, cementation) and their impact on wettability and saturation height functions; design SCAL programs for carbonate-specific wettability and capillary pressure.
  • Integration with seismic and geology: Collaborate on carbonate facies modeling and seismic attribute analysis to link petrophysical properties with depositional and diagenetic trends.
  • Carbonate-specific saturation modeling: Apply advanced saturation-height modeling using MICP and integrate with NMR-derived pore size distribution for mixed-wet carbonate systems.
  • Lost circulation and karst risk assessment: Provide petrophysical input for drilling hazard identification in karstified intervals and fractured zones.
  • Integration with geology and reservoir engineering: Experience in supporting and updating static and dynamic reservoir modelling for carbonate reservoirs.

 

  • Extensive carbonate experience: 10–15+ years in carbonate reservoirs (platform, reef, ramp), including mature field optimization and FDP execution.
  • Carbonate petrophysics expertise: Proven ability to interpret logs in complex carbonate systems (image logs, NMR, dielectric, spectroscopy) and reconcile log-core discrepancies.
  • Diagenesis and pore system knowledge: Strong understanding of carbonate diagenesis and its impact on porosity/permeability; ability to integrate petrography (thin section, SEM) with petrophysical models.
  • Rock typing & SCAL: Hands‑on SCAL program design and interpretation in carbonates (wettability, MICP, capillary pressure, relative permeability, carbonate‑specific brine/rock interactions), and construction of robust rock‑typing frameworks for modeling.
  • SCAL and wettability in carbonates: Hands-on experience designing and interpreting SCAL programs for carbonate reservoirs, including capillary pressure and relative permeability.
  • Fracture characterization: Skilled in fracture detection and quantification from logs and core; experience building DFN models for integration into reservoir simulation.
  • Advanced software proficiency: IP, Techlog for carbonate-specific workflows; Petrel for integration with geological models; OFM for production data analysis.
  • Familiarity with carbonate analogues: Good knowledge of local and regional depositional models (Middle East).
