Digital Innovation Discovery Day

Schlumberger’s Research Center in Cambridge welcomed 26 PhD students and 6 Academic supervisors for a two-day workshop.

Over 80 female students had the opportunity to learn about topics such as virtual reality, coding, UX design thinking and robotics at a digital innovation discovery day held at the Schlumberger Montpellier Technology Center in France.

The event was in partnership with Elles bougent, a non-profit association that helps to inspire young women to pursue vocations in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

The gathering included round table discussions and workshops where the students met subject matter experts from Schlumberger and other technology companies who shared their professional experiences. Questions from students covered a wide range of subjects such as what motivated the speakers to pursue careers in STEM, the training required, and the variety of digital career paths available.

Commentary from the students was positive: “It was neat to meet women engineers,” said one student. “The workshops got me thinking differently. Before I would have never considered a scientific career. But now, I am interested in looking into it more closely.”

Feedback from the panelists was just as enthusiastic. As one of the Schlumberger engineers noted “It was inspiring to share STEM topics with this motivated group of students. They asked really good questions and I look forward to participating at other young women in STEM events.”
