From a Simple Recommendation to an Eight-Year Journey
Eight years ago, Prerana was working at an IT services company in Mumbai away from her home city of Pune, India, and wanted something closer to home. A colleague recommended that she look into SLB – and so she decided to give it a try.
The day of her interview, Prerana immediately felt something was different here. She got a sense of a unique group empowered by a supporting culture and wanted to be a part of it. Eight years later, she still is.
Today, Prerana is a Technical Lead Frontend Developer. She builds web applications for field users. A job that requires adapting complex tasks and workflows into intuitive digital solutions for teams in operations.
What they see is a clean interface. But what sits behind it is often weeks of architectural decisions, performance trade-offs, and anticipating behaviors that users themselves couldn't articulate. Even small changes can involve extensive background work and limitations that aren't visible to end users. That gap between what's seen and what's built is where most of her work lives.
“In this job, you need to stay adaptable as things quickly evolve, and put yourself in the shoes of the end‑user to understand their challenges and meet their expectations.”
She learned that lesson sharply during a recent project. Joining mid-way through a vendor transition, with the release already at a near-final stage, Prerana quickly realized the complexity of the modules had been underestimated. The timeline was fixed but the complexity wasn’t.
Rather than trying to rework everything at once, she focused on bringing structure to the challenge.
She identified the modules and fixes that would have the biggest impact on the release and prioritized those areas, leaning on years of accumulated experience to quickly spot potential risks and areas that needed deeper attention.
She also used AI smartly — not as a shortcut, but as a way to clear the routine tasks off her plate so she could focus on the problems that required critical thinking.
"Technical requirements evolve, and approaches and solutions must evolve with them."
It's a mindset that runs through everything she does. Frontend development sits at the intersection of technology and human behavior, and technology never stops changing. New frameworks, shifting design trends, evolving user behaviors. Staying still isn't an option and that continuous learning is what Prerana thrives on.
“What grounds me is that moment when users find the interface intuitive, when the design gets out of the way for the person to just do their job. That feedback is what makes the complexity worthwhile.”
That same instinct for reading what people need carries over into her own life. She works hybrid — in the office twice a week, home the rest of the time. Being home mid-week means being present for her family in ways a full office schedule wouldn't allow.
"This setup helps my family better understand my actual work, which results in them encouraging me more."
Prerana is clear about what’s needed to thrive at SLB: “be ready to balance creativity with technical precision, stay curious, and never stop learning.”
